All about Zakynthos

It is a slender snake of medium size, up to 120cm long. Females are up to twice the size of males. Its color is brown, olive green or some shade of gray on top, with several spots. At the bottom the colors vary from off-white to black spots to total black and it has a characteristic yellow stripe around the neck. It is found near areas with water, such as rivers, lakes and swamps. It is diurnal and its main food is amphibians and fish, as it is a good swimmer. His tactics when he is threatened are interesting. Either it emits an unpleasant odor from the base of its tail or it pretends to be dead by turning it upside down. The degradation of both the land and aquatic environment is a threat to its species.
