The Domenegini family fled to Zakynthos in 1669 after the fall of Chandax and was enrolled among the nobility in 1741.


Nathaniel Domeneginsis [1798-1854], radical deputy of the Ninth Parliament, fought as a volunteer in Epirus in 1854, was captured by the Turks at Petta and died because the English consul there refused to receive him as an Ionian citizen, thus condemning him to martyrdom.


His brother's son, Nathaniel, was also a scholar and lawyer. He fought in Drisko, served as Prefect of Corfu and translated the "Tombs" of Foscolo in 1920.
