All about Zakynthos

The centre and heart of the Lombard party, the residence of Constantine Lombard next to the Old Fountain was destroyed in 1953.

Konstantinos Lombardos was a pioneer in the struggle for the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece.

In May 1860 he founded a comitat in Zakynthos on the model of the Central Italian Comitat of Genoa, with which he had been in contact, with the aim of provoking Garibaldi's intervention for the liberation of Epirus, Thessaly and Macedonia.

He was elected as a member of the United States Congress of the Ionian Islands and continued his political career in Greece as a Member of Parliament of Zakynthos and as a minister.

He died as acting Minister of the Interior on 5 July/17 July 1888.
