History Zante Town Zante Town

The dominikale of the Messalas family survived until 1953 and was the only one of the houses that had retained its bojo, the covered i. e. projection that the old Zakynthian houses had towards the street, in order to gain space, and which were demolished under Mayor Tzoulatis for reasons of ventilation and cleanliness of the city. In this place during the Venetian occupation was the sanitary station.

The Public Library of Zakynthos was housed in the Messala Mansion from 1936 until 1953.

The jurist and scholar Konstantinos Messalas (1818-1895) was Italian consul in Zakynthos around 1883, wrote poetry collections in Italian and was a collaborator of the Zakynthian Anthonas Tsakasianos.
