All about Zakynthos

The festival of the Panigyria in Zakynthos is the one that takes place in the town of Zakynthos twice a year, on December 17 and August 24, in honor of the patron saint of the island, Saint Dionysios. The celebration is a three-day event, accompanied by a procession of the relic and during the celebration "the Saint is at his door", that is, he rises from his silver-carved urn and is placed upright in the church for the pilgrimage of the faithful. Preparations for the feast begin a few days before and the climax is reached on the evening of August 24 in the summer, with a magnificent procession and fireworks.
