Museum of Gregorios Xenopoulos
History Zante Town Zante Town
The Xenopoulos Museum is housed in Gaita Street in the historic district of Faneromeni. It was inaugurated in 1998, in the place where the house of the great playwright was located before the earthquake, with money from the bequest of his daughter Efthalia Xenopoulou-Natsiou to the Municipality of Zakynthos. It contains the author's personal belongings, manuscripts, editions of his works, issues of the magazine 'Diaplasis ton paidon' (meaning "Children's education", various books, pamphlets, printed matter and photographic material. The exhibits also include objects, furniture and utensils from the Xenopoulou family home, as well as a wealth of archival material related to the author's daughter, Efthalia Xenopoulou and her husband, Christoforos Natsios, a sculptor. A trademark of the Museum is the palm tree in the courtyard of the building, one of the few remnants of pre-earthquake Zakynthos.
