All about Zakynthos

The Prefect Andreas Ioannou among the projects he left in Zakynthos, was the shaping and landscaping of the embankments in the area, where the reparas existed before the earthquake, today's Municipal Plaza, naming the area "Park of the Fighters of 1821". Then he brought and placed the brass busts of Theodoros Kolokotronis (1770 - 1843) and Andreas Miaoulis (1769 - 1835). Then various changes followed and the bust of Miaoulis was placed on the tree line opposite the kindergarten, in the area of St. Dionysios. It is the work of the sculptor Antonios Karachalios (1919 - 2009). To the right and left of the bust of Miaoulis, two of the Venetian cannons, which were originally in the Fortress and had been used before the Second World War as bindings in the harbour, were later moved and placed. The cannons were gradually replaced and then been placed in various places in the town (Fallen Column, ground floor of the Public Library, opposite the Port Authority building, Fortress).
