All about Zakynthos

On the main road of Zakynthos - Volima, just before reaching the entrance of Agios Dimitrios, and at the place where a battle took place after an ambush between a group of guerrillas of the E.L.A.S. and German soldiers of the occupation troops, on the 7th of September 1944, a small platform has been formed and a memorial column has been placed on the front of which is inscribed: Battle of EAM - ELAS "The ERA of the ELA/EAM of the ERA of the ELA against the Germans on 7.9.1944. A built stone staircase leads to the plateau, and the area is surrounded by a low stone mooring. The column is a later one and replaced an inscribed plaque, originally placed on the battle site in 1982, following recognition of the national resistance. That commemorative plaque, remained neglected and the site was shaped into its current form by the former president of the community, Petros Stamiris in the year 2014.
